Change the conversation. January - what does this month mean to you?

Breaking old habits and embracing new ones...

What does January mean to you?

Breaking old habits and embracing new ones. Isn’t this what January is all about? Putting the festivities behind us and focussing on looking forward. What are we going to do differently this year? What are we going to change and improve?

And I guess that some of the questions you are asking yourself right now are:

  • How are you going to implement the changes you want to make?

  • How are you going to do this on your own?

  • How are you going to commit to it?

  • How are you going to keep motivated?

Whatever you are deciding to change or improve, I think we would all agree that we need to make a commitment and decision to stick with our intentions and be determined not give up. But that is hard and we all benefit from encouragement. Consider for a moment, who will help you? Your family and friends? Or might they put temptation in your way?

Planning and preparation is key?

Knowing where to start is vital. If you are serious about looking after yourself and taking steps to improve your well-being, you need a plan which will help you know what to do, how to prepare, keep you focussed and provide you with a guide to change, with ‘points of interest’ along the way.

Ultimate Self Care Guide

To help you change the conversation and break those old habits,  I have devised a 21 day self care guide. Each day, I will suggest activities which will help you work on your body, mind and spirit. Which will cover the 7 important aspects of wellbeing which are:

  • Mindfulness

  • Movement

  • Challenge

  • Relaxation

  • Change

  • Nutrition

  • Reflection

Each day the challenge will invite you to dedicate time to an activity. For you to be the best versions of yourself, you need to learn how to be your own personal trainer, nutrition coach and therapist.

The great news is that there is so much we can do ourselves. For example, there are healthy recipes online, yoga videos etc so that we don’t have to make big financial commitments, we just have to make a choice to put ourselves first, to take responsibility, action and ownership. You can also enjoy extra yoga, meditation and wellbeing practices in my self care hub check it out here

We all have wobbles and could use a bit of friendly support, because when we make changes, the ones which last are the ones we enjoy.

I am reminded of Stephen Covey’s seventh habit, from his book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, which is about ‘preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have – you’. It means having a balanced programme for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental and spiritual. As you renew in these areas, you create growth and change in your life.

Remember, each day provides us with a new opportunity for renewal. All it takes is the desire, knowledge, skill and a little help along the way.
